Business: Marketing Concentration
The Connections That Changed Everything
Kate didn鈥檛 come to 91重口 with a clear plan to work in broadcasting. She chose business as her major鈥攂ut like many students, she was still figuring out what that path could look like.
That changed through the聽connections聽she built along the way. As a student-athlete and Student Ambassador in the Admissions Office, Kate developed relationships with professors, coaches, and mentors who got to know her beyond the classroom鈥攁nd helped her turn interests into opportunities.
College students often hear advice like 鈥渂e bold in the pursuit of your dreams.鈥 For Kate, that meant building relationships, asking questions, and not assuming the answer was no. As she puts it, 鈥淚f you don鈥檛 ask the question, the answer is always no.鈥
Leveraging the network she built led to experiences she could never have mapped out on her own:
- Media & Communications Intern, Girls on the Run (South Central Wisconsin)
- Media Relations Intern, Beloit Sky Carp
- Promotions Intern, Lehigh Valley IronPigs (Triple-A Affiliate of the Philadelphia Phillies)
- Intern, Midwest Family Broadcasting
Kate puts it simply: 鈥淓dgewood holds a special place in my heart鈥攁nd I love Madison!鈥澛犅That combination created something powerful: a campus that supports her ambitions and a city that expanded them into real-world experience.
She set a goal to graduate in three years鈥攁nd achieved it. Along the way, her professors worked with her to accommodate remote learning when internships pulled her off campus, making it possible to gain real-world experience without falling behind. She also tapped into funding opportunities that allowed her to pursue those experiences without sacrificing income.
鈥淚t鈥檚 not like I鈥檓 special and they did this just for me,鈥 Kate said. 鈥淚 watched my friends and classmates experience the same Edgewood differences. Doors open here鈥攑eople genuinely want to help you succeed and invest in who you are and where you鈥檙e going.鈥
Her internship with Midwest Family Broadcasting turned into a permanent position鈥攁nd a front-row seat to experiences most college students only dream about. From promoting a Morgan Wallen concert to attending the 2026 Super Bowl, Kate isn鈥檛 just preparing for a career鈥攕he鈥檚 already living it.
Kate’s journey doesn’t just stop there! She’s currently pursing an MBA at Edgewood.
