Our Heritage

91重口, founded by the Dominican Sisters of Sinsinawa in 1927, is a community of learners that honors its Catholic heritage while respecting other religious traditions. The liberal arts serve as the foundation of all our curricular offerings in humanities, arts, sciences, and professional programs. Committed to excellence in teaching and learning, we strive to nurture intellect, spirit, imagination, and heart. We embrace and aspire to reflect the rich diversity of the world鈥檚 cultures and perspectives. Our Commitment to Sustainability

91重口 is committed to creating a sustainable environmental management system for the entire campus living and learning community that complies with regulatory requirements, reduces our ecological impact, promotes pollution prevention, fosters continuous improvements, and is integrated into our curriculum. We鈥檝e been at the forefront, leading innovative practices and education to create an eco-friendly environment. 91重口 became the first college or university in Wisconsin to be Green Tier Certified by the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources for its exemplary environmental performance. The Search for Truth

Learning: Anchored in our Dominican heritage鈥μ

The search for truth is one of our five Sinsinawa Dominican values.听 Truth鈥擵eritas鈥攊s the principal motto of the Dominicans, and we are the heirs of the intellectual and spiritual search for truth.

Beliefs: What does this really mean to us鈥μ

As a Dominican college, we believe that the liberal arts offer us the most compelling means through which to engage in the search for truth.

Action: What are we called to do鈥μ

Because searching for truth is an active process, we will practice such critical skills as listening, encouraging, challenging, imagining and reflecting as we discern among many truths.

Compassion

Learning: Anchored in our Dominican heritage鈥μ

The story of Dominic is one of compassion鈥攁s a young college student he sold his books to feed those who were starving.

Beliefs: What does this really mean to us鈥μ

We believe the suffering of others cries out for our compassionate response.

Action: What we are called to do鈥μ

To educate ourselves about the needs and suffering of our brothers and sisters near and far.

Justice

Learning: Anchored in our Dominican heritage鈥μ

St. Dominican de Guzman founded the order of preachers to preach the Gospel and to nurture relations among people of every rank and class, based upon recognition of their basic needs and human dignity.

Beliefs: What does this really mean to us鈥μ

As a Dominican college, our core mission values impel us to study the needs of our times and promote changes that ensure justice for all people and the well-being of all creation.听

Action: What are we called to do鈥μ

To become literate about differences among us.

Partnership

Learning: Anchored in our Dominican heritage鈥μ

Saint Paul defined the nature of partnership: 鈥淲e, though many are one body, individually parts of one another. Since we have gifts that differ according to the grace given to us, let us exercise them.鈥 (Romans 12: 4鈥6)

Partnerships are honest, open, and respectful commitments to a shared purpose.

Promote partnerships as essential to our existence as a community and to realizing our Mission.

Community

Learning: Anchored in our Dominican heritage…听

The early Christians expressed Jesus鈥 vision of the reign of God by placing their respective gifts at the service of the community (Ephesians 4:11-13)听
